The
Retreat was not only extremely educational, (all the instructors
were very knowledgeable, easy to understand, and truly interested
in the riders coming away with far more understanding of the mechanics
and skills of riding then they arrived with) but relaxing and just
plain fun!
Throughout the weekend through lessons and lectures from each
clinician we learned the importance of body position and how it
influences the horse. The importance of ground work and how it
can improve the horse's performance before one ever steps foot
in the stirrup. The importance of warming up our muscles as well
as the horse's to prevent injury. We learned how fitness can positively
influence our riding. We learned exercises for ourselves and our
horses to improve and develop our fitness as a team.
I took my four year old mare. I felt I knew something about developing
a young horse having had a number of youngsters before. I came
away from the Retreat realizing I have so much more to learn!
Which is exciting to me as I love the learning process! I left
with so many more skills and exercises than I thought possible.
I hadn't cantered her much under saddle as I felt her balance
at that gait was not great enough yet. Within a week after the
Retreat she was cantering both ways on the bridle! I am very excited
with her progress and the knowledge and skills I gained not only
for her but myself as well. I will definitely be going back again
next year! Sally Dietrich
