Are You a Candidate
for an Older Horse
How can one learn to be a good rider, trainer, and competitor
if they have not ridden an experienced horse?
The answer is; they can not. Yes, one can ride first level with
some success if they have a horse that is a good natural mover,
but beyond that you must learn the movements before you can ever
expect to teach a young horse how to do it
A horse with proper training 6 days a week and proper care can
last well into their twenties. It goes without saying that with
any athlete consistent training is the best way to prevent injury
Myth
1: Old horses have more soundness problems.
Truth: You will learn to ride at the trained horse's level.
That's the whole point!
Truth:
Soundness has more to do with proper training and care. Horses that
are ridden crooked or lack in Ferrier and vet care often come with
more soundness problems.
Myth
2: You won't be able to ride at the horse's level. I often hear,
"I can't ride in a double bridle"
